why is having an abundance of material possessions or displaying a high-consumption lifestyle not necessarily a good indicator of wealth?why do u think so few people become millionaires?in other word, what is standing in the way?
Most people who have money in the bank havent spent it on whats in the driveway, or fancy trips or big empty houses, etc.
They aren't millionaires in the conventional sense, because they blow thier money on stuff, instead of putting it in the bank.

It’s a real eye opener to see that behind the image of having a rich lifestyle, a mansion and as many possessions as you want there lurks a unstable and shallow personality like this millionaire. People should become less concerned with their possessions and focus on each other to stop these tragedies happening.
I know. It comes down to priorities. I hear stories of people working 100 hours a week or see it myself from people that I've met or know. I'm like, why. Sometimes they seem like very selfish and judgmental people to the extreme. I don't see the point in working yourself to the death. We have plenty of people that can chip in. We continue to lose jobs so there is no need for someone to work more than 2 full time jobs. I think we all need to be more realistic in terms of our expectations for our life and go towards more quality of life rather than quantity.
edit: There are plenty of people that really admire them. Have you experienced that? People that are just attracted to money, status, and material possessions. If you don't have it then you are tossed aside as not being good enough. I grew up in a wealthy town so I saw this firsthand. It's more than that though. It seems a cheap facade.
edit: People should embrace reality and truth instead of hiding it. I think that's where we get into trouble. Life happens in every sense. It's how we handle it that shows our real character and our real worth/value.

I am not on assistance right now but might need to soon because my husband is leaving me and 2yr old son. How much money can you make and still get food stamps, wic and title 19? We have never been on this before.
In indiana you can make 1300 before taxes and qualify for any assistance. It depends on dollar for dollar wahat you make. When I made 250 a week I got 76 a month. when I mad 200 a week I got 146. They put it in the computer. and give you a number. That is at least what they tell you.
WIC you can make a lot more and qualify. People on food stamps automatically qualify.
There is medicaid, in with the food stamps… that is free insurance for kids.
If you dont have insurance, try the hospitals around you and ask if they have discounted services or a sliding fee scale.
There is Section 8 which most of the time has a long waiting list… Try in house section 8. That is when apartments host there own section 8 and the waiting list may be weeks or months instead of years…
The phone companies over a service called lifeline… that is where you get your phone connected for free and get the tax taken off your phone bill… Call phone company for info…
There is also something called CCDF… that is free child care at licensed day cares as long as you work or are in school.
And try State colleges, most of them if you apply for pell grants make it to where you can go for free… actually get paid to go…
Some childrens musuems over discount programs
SOme YMCA over discounts on monthly membership… For my family we go for 20 a month.. and get 50% off sports…
At Christmas, lots of Churches will help with presents for children and food.
Some states have a phonenumber you can call to ask for referrals.. If there is a crisis pregnancy center by you, they should have a list of places that help.
There are lots out there you just have to research. When you go for your food stamps appointment ask where you can go for help.

I'm 22 years old, and wanting to purchase a house in the next year or two. I have money in savings right now which is making terribly low interest. What would be my best move? I'd like to invest the money short term, but I'd like to make a good amount of money doing so. Is that possible and how? CD's and Money Market accounts just aren't gonna give me the results I want.
As someone has already mentioned, the only way for you to make a lot of money in a short amount of time is through taking on investments with greater risk in order to be exposed to possible greater returns. However, if you're wanting to purchase a house in the next year or two, you obviously don't want to risk losing your possible deposit.
Beware of any "shortcuts" some people might suggest to the road to getting rich, as if it really worked a lot more people would do it.
In the short term, your best options are probably to try and earn some more money rather than earning interest or capital gains from investing your money.
In the long term your options are a little bit broader though.
I know this advice may not seem that helpful, but at least it may save you from possibly losing money by taking bad advice elsewhere.
